Export your client list from your current software

If you’re struggling to get your clients off the software you’re currently using for your practice and onto TaxDome, we’re here to help you expedite the process. Most accounting software platforms allow you to export client data to a CSV file, which can then be imported directly into TaxDome .

General export process

Most export processes follow a similar pattern:

  1. Locate the export function in your software’s Settings, Tools, Reports, or Client management section.

  2. Select which client fields to export (name, email, phone, address).

  3. Choose CSV (.csv) as your export format.

  4. Run the export and save the file to your computer.

  5. Open the file in a spreadsheet program to verify the data exported correctly.

Once you export the client list, you can prepare your CSV file for import to TaxDome .

Software-specific export instructions

Select your current software from the list below for detailed, step-by-step export instructions. Use the table of contents on the right to navigate directly to the section you need.

UltraTax CS

To export your client data from UltraTax CS:

  1. Go to Utilities > Client Listing Reports, select the report you want to export (General Client Information, Client Contact, Client Family, etc.), then click Continue.

  2. Select a sort criteria from the Sort field.

  3. In the Select Clients for Report dialog box, use the Focus group to include or exclude clients.

  4. In the Clients available to print pane, select the clients you want, then click Select. To remove a client, select it and click Remove.

  5. Click Export, then specify a file name and location. Choose Excel 97-2003 Workbook as the file type.

  6. Select Include column headings if needed, then click Save.

To import the data to TaxDome, you’ll need to open the file in Excel, and then save it as CSV file .

Lacerte

To export your client data from Lacerte:

  1. Go to the Clients tab and highlight the client(s) to export.

  2. From the Client menu, choose Export > Export to File.

  3. Choose folder (default: C:\LACERTE\YYTAX\IDATA\EXPORT) and file name (EXPORT by default).

  1. Select Comma Delimited and optionally Print Summary File.

  2. Expand the category under Available, select items to export, then double-click or use (>) to move them to Display.

  3. Click OK to create the file.

Note

Detailed information, such as the name of payer for interest, dividends, or the description of property, date acquired and sold for dispositions, etc. aren’t available for export. Only the total interest, dividend, and capital gain are in the available export fields.

Drake

  1. Go to Tools > File Maintenance > Export Client/EF Data.

  2. Select Export client data files, then check Export to CSV. Check Include test returns if you want to include test items.

  3. Enter or confirm the export file location, then click Continue.

  4. Once the export is complete, click Exit.

ProSeries

To export your client list from Proseries to a CSV file:

  1. Open ProSeries and navigate to the HomeBase screen, which shows your client list.

  2. Select the clients you want to export (hold Ctrl to select multiple clients).

  3. Click File in the top menu, select Export, then choose Client List.

  4. Select CSV as the export format.

  5. Choose which fields to include in the export (client name, address, contact information, etc.).

  6. Select the save location, name the file, and click Export.

CCH ProSystem fx

To export your client list from CCH ProSystem fx to a CSV file:

  1. Open Dashboard, click Applications on the navigation panel, then select Create client list for Portal under Utilities.

You must have Edit Firm Setup permissions to select this option.
  1. Choose the Quick Search criteria, then click Go to select which clients to include.

  2. Click Export.

  3. Select CSV as the file format and choose where to save the file.

  4. Click Save to complete the export.

CCH Axcess

To export your client list from CCH Axcess to a CSV file:

  1. Open Dashboard, click Application Links on the navigation panel, then select Create client list for Portal under Utilities.

  1. Choose the Quick Search criteria, then click Go to select which clients to include.

  2. Click Export.

  3. Select CSV as the file format and choose where to save the file.

  4. Click Save to complete the export.

ATX

Show instructions

To export a client list from ATX to a CSV file:

  1. Mark the clients whose information you want included in the client list. To include all clients, click Mark All on the toolbar.

  2. From the Return Manager, click the Reports menu, then select Export Marked Client List.

  3. In the Export as CSV File dialog, enter a file name and choose where to save the file.

  4. Click Save.

Practice CS

Show instructions
  1. Go to File > Export > Clients.

  2. Check the Other option for Export To, click the ellipsis next to it, and choose the location to save the file.

  1. Enter a file name and ensure Save as type is set to XML Data (*.xml), then click Save.

  2. Select the clients you want to export, then click Export Selected.

To import the data to TaxDome, you’ll need to open the file in Excel, and then save it as CSV file .

TaxAct

Show instructions

To export your client data from TaxAct to a CSV file:

  1. Go to Client Manager, select the Export Client(s) from the File menu, then select TaxDome Export.
  1. You will also have the ability to select individual clients you would like to export or click on the Select All button to export them all. After selecting the clients you would like to export, click OK.
  1. Save your CSV file.

QuickBooks Online and Desktop

You can export customer data either from the Customers page or from the Reports page

Export customer data from the Customers page

If you export from the Customers page, you’ll be able to export data from the Name, Company, Address, Phone Number, Email Address, Customer Type, Attachment, Currency, Balance, and Notes columns.

  1. From the left menu, select Sales, then Customers.

  2. Click the Export to Excel button on the right. The XLS file will be downloaded to your computer.

To import the data to TaxDome, you’ll need to open the file in Excel, and then save it as CSV file .

Export customer data from the Reports page

If you export from the Reports page, you can customize the client data you want to export, so it is a more precise and detailed approach.

  1. From the left menu, select Reports > Standard reports.
  1. Select Customer Contact List from the dropdown. If you want to make changes to the default report, click Customize.
  1. Select the Export icon above right of the Customer contact list, then choose Export as CSV.

TaxSlayer Pro

Show instructions

To export client list from TaxSlayer Pro to a CSV file:

  1. In the client list view, click Export.

  2. Select the fields you want to include, or click Check All to include all, then click OK.

  3. In the Windows File Explorer window, verify or change the save location and file name (default is ClientReports), then click Save.

Karbon

Show instructions
  1. Go to the Contacts section.

  2. Click the cloud icon and select All contacts. The client information will be saved as a spreadsheet to your device.

ShareFile

To export client data from ShareFile to a CSV file:

  1. Go to Settings, then to Admin Settings.

  2. Select the Reporting section under Account and Reporting.

  1. Click the Create Report button, select Users, click Next.
  1. Select Client under User Type, then select CSV under Generate. Click Create.
  1. Once your new report is ready click on its name in the list to download it.

Xero

To export your client data from Xero to a CSV file:

  1. In the Contacts menu, select the group of contacts you want to export. For example, to export contacts you’ve created sales invoices and sales credit notes for, click Customers.
  1. Click three-dot menu on the right and select Export. Your contacts will then download as a CSV file on your computer.

TaxCalc

To export client data from TaxCalc to a CSV file:

  1. Go to the Practice manager, in the Report manager click New Report.
  1. In the new Create new report window, select Client from the What type of report do you want to create? dropdown and click Select. Click Continue.
  1. Add a report name and description. Click Continue.
  1. On the next screen, click Client information in the left column and Add to add columns to the report. Click Continue.
  1. Click Finish and Save. Click Yes to run the report now.

  2. Click Export report in the top right corner and select Comma Separated Values (.csv). Choose a location to save it to.

OfficeTools

To export your client data from Office Tools to a CSV file:

  1. Log in to Practice Management, go to Contacts, select Import/Export Contacts, and then Excel Importer. Click Export.

  2. Select the checkboxes next to the fields you want to include in the file. You can filter your contact info to be exported by Contact Type and Entity Type. At the top of the window, enter where you want to save the exported file in the Save Path field, select CSV for the file type, then click Export.

SmartVault

To export client data from SmartVault to a CSV file:

  1. Sign in to the SmartVault Portal.

  2. In the left sidebar, select Client Management.

  3. Click the three-dot menu next to Add Client, then choose Export to CSV.

  4. Close the alert message that appears.

  5. When the export is ready, you’ll receive an email with a link to download the file.

GoToConnect

Export customer data from the my.jive.com/pbx login page

  1. Sign in to my.jive.com/pbx .

  2. From the left menu, select Users.

  3. Click Export and then save your file.

Export customer data from the admin.goto.com login page

  1. Log in to admin.goto.com .

  2. From the left menu, select People > Users.

  3. Click the checkbox next to the Name field to export all users or next to specific users to export only selected ones.

  4. Click the export icon and then save your file.

To import the data to TaxDome, you’ll need to open the file in Excel, and then save it as CSV file .

Practice Perfect

To export your client list from PracticePerfect to a CSV file:

  1. In the left-hand Operations menu, select Clients.

  2. Click the printer icon.

  3. Select the data you want to export and check the Do you want to export? box at the bottom of the window.

  4. Click Export and save the file.

Wave

Show instructions

To export your client data from Wave to a CSV file:

  1. Click your business name at the top right, then select Business settings.
  1. In the Settings menu, scroll down to Other and click Data Export.
  1. Select Export all transactions for Excel. You’ll receive an email at your account’s primary email address.
  1. Open the email and click Download data export. The exported client data file will be named customers.csv.

Jetpack Workflow

To export your client list from Jetpack Workflow to a CSV file:

  1. Navigate to the Clients tab.
  1. Click the Import button in the top-right corner.
  1. Select Continue to import without setting up Custom Fields, then click Continue.
  1. Choose Update Existing Data and/or Add Clients.

  2. In the menu that opens, select Download your current data sheet to upload existing contacts.

  1. The data sheet will be downloaded automatically.

Outlook Desktop and Web

Outlook Desktop

  1. Go to File, select Open and export.
  1. Select Export.
  1. Choose Export to a file, select Comma Separated Values.

  2. Under the email account you want to export contacts from, select Contacts.

  3. Choose Browse, name your file, and choose OK.

Outlook on the web

  1. At the top of the side panel, select People.
  1. On the toolbar, select Manage contacts > Export contacts.
  1. Choose whether to export all contacts or only contacts from a specific folder.

  2. Click Export to download your contacts.

CrossLink 1040

Show instructions

To export your client list from CrossLink 1040 to a CSV file:

  1. Go to Utility > Export Records.

  2. In Export Name, select Complete Mailing List.

  3. Click the three-dot menu to choose a save location, enter a file name, and click Save.

  4. Click Export. Your client data will be saved as CSV file.

17hats

Show instructions

To export your client list from 17hats to a CSV file:

  1. Go to your Contacts or Leads page.

  2. Click the gear icon in the top right and select Export Contacts.

  3. The CSV file will download automatically and appear in your Downloads folder.

TaxWise Online

Show instructions

To export your client list from TaxWise Online to a CSV file:

  1. Log in as admin and open the Tax Returns tab (current or prior year).

  2. Click the gear icon to open Return List Options, then select Customize Columns.

  3. Drag and drop columns to add, remove, or reorder them. Recommended for export: First Name, Last Name, TIN, Evening Phone, Email Address, Address, City, State, Zip.

  4. Close the customization menus once your list is set.

  5. Ensure the Return List reflects the desired view, then open View More Actions and select Export Return List.

  6. Choose CSV. The file download will start automatically.

Canopy

Show instructions

To export your client list from Canopy to a CSV file:

  1. Go to the Client List, click the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select Export filtered list.

  2. Choose the list you want to export. Check Export all visible and hidden columns if needed.

  3. Click Export. The CSV file will be saved as CanopyClientsExport.csv.

CountingWorks PRO

Show instructions

To export your client list from CountingWorks PRO to a CSV file:

  1. Select Clients and then Client List.

  2. Click the three-dot menu at the top right and select Download Client List. The file will download automatically.

To import the data to TaxDome, you’ll need to open the file in Excel, and then save it as CSV file .

Gmail (Google Contacts)

Show instructions

To export your client list from Google Contacts to a CSV file:

  1. Go to Gmail, click on the Google apps icon in the upper right-hand corner, then click Contacts.
  1. In Google Contacts, click the Export icon in the top right corner.
  1. Select Google CSV, and click Export. The contacts are then exported as a CSV file onto your desktop.

Senta

Show instructions

To export client data from Senta to a CSV file:

  1. Open the Client List and filter or select the clients you want to export.

  2. Click Actions and choose Export. Select whether to export visible columns or all client data. A CSV file will then be saved to your default download location.
