SMS explained

Along with emails and chat messages, SMS is an important communication channel. You can use it to send urgent messages that need clients’ immediate attention.
SMS at a glance
SMS is a great way to notify your client about impending deadlines, critical updates, or time-sensitive requests. Due to the Twilio integration, you can send SMS directly from the TaxDome interface to concrete clients or even in bulk.

In general, work with SMS in TaxDome follows this flow:

Register your brand on Twilio (a third-party service we collaborate with to provide you with the SMS feature) and get a new phone number for sending SMS.

Add client phone numbers . All phone numbers are stored in the contact details. You can add them when importing new clients or edit for the existing ones. The crucial thing is that each phone number you will use for sending SMS should be specified as Primary phone.

Top-up the firm balance . SMS is a paid feature. Incoming and outgoing SMS cost $0.04 USD each. That’s how it goes because Twilio has its own fees. We don’t charge any extra money.

Announce your phone number . When Twilio tells you your brand is verified and gives you a phone number, you’ll see it in Integrations > SMS. Then, you can tell clients about the contact phone number for SMS.
Once these one-time steps are complete, you can send SMS to specific clients or bulk-message several clients at once . Your clients see messages on their phones and reply through their standard messaging app.
SMS notifications
Team members receive an email and a notification in their Inbox+ whenever one of their assigned clients sends a new SMS or replies to their SMS. To view the most recent SMS and respond to it, click on the name of the thread or the Go to… link.
You can receive notifications for all new messages from clients you have access to or limit them to assigned threads only. Learn more about changing your notification preferences .
Note
Firm owner and admins receive SMS notifications for new messages only from followed accounts to avoid clutter.
Access and permissions
SMS can be sent and seen by:
- Firm owner
- Admins
- Team members with access to the client’s account or view all accounts access right
Client view
From your clients’ viewpoint, nothing changes about how they use SMS. Clients receive text messages sent from TaxDome directly on their phones—not within the TaxDome client portal. They reply to texts as they normally would, using their phone’s standard messaging app.
This transparency means clients don’t need to learn a new system or change their communication habits. The organizational benefits of TaxDome SMS are entirely on your firm’s side.
