Invoice customization, explained
The way you use TaxDome defines the appearance of your invoices. With TaxDome, you can define the color scheme of your invoices, select the layout, and decide which firm info you want displayed. You can also include any CRM data stored via custom fields and decide which line item information is displayed (description, rate, tax info, and so on).
For your convenience, all settings related to PDF invoice customization are available on one single page ( Settings > Invoice), which is available to firm owners and firm admins.
While tuning up the invoice look, you may definitely want to test it. Click Preview at the top right of the page. This will show you a basic PDF invoice with placeholders.
If you want to preview an invoice and see how specific services you perform will appear there, you can open the already-issued invoice and click Preview. Or, if you are creating an invoice and want to see it before sending it, click Preview in the invoice creation window
Master the design
To change the invoice PDF design, go to Settings > Invoice from the left sidebar. Here, in the Design section, you can configure the following settings:
- Layout: Layout defines how the invoice elements will be situated around each other.
- Logo size: Adjust how big or small your firm logo appears in invoices. If you don’t have a firm logo yet, you can add one in settings.
- Color: Select the accent color. It will affect the invoice title and the line item table header color. If you want to customize it and the suggested colors don’t fit, enter the desired color’s HEX code in the text input field. Go here to pick a color and find its HEX code.
Click Save after you're done.
Add firm info
You can define which firm info you want to appear on invoices. Go to Settings > Invoice and turn the toggles on and off in the Firm info section to determine whether your address, website, email and phone number will appear on invoices.
Click Manage to access the firm info settings, check what you have set up and update it if needed.
Display custom fields
The Custom fields section on the Settings > Invoice page shows the list of all custom fields on your portal with toggles. Turn the toggles on to include these custom field values in the client information section in invoices.
Only account custom fields are available.
Note! By default, all custom fields are disabled for PDF invoices.
Click Manage to access the custom field settings and manage the custom field list.
Configure line item columns
You may want to exclude particular line item columns from invoices. For example, if you don’t add tax rates to invoices, there is no sense in keeping this field in invoices.
To remove particular line item columns, go to Settings > Invoice and turn the toggles on and off in the Line item columns section.
Note that changes will apply only to those invoices you post after making these changes.
Show/hide invoice description
Additionally, you may want to include or exclude the invoice description in PDFs. To control if the invoice description appears in PDFs, go to Settings > Invoice and turn the Include invoice description in PDFs toggle on or off in the Preferences section. Then, click Save.
