1. When does the Windows app (v3) be retired?
August 20, 2026. After that date, v3 sign-in will be disabled for most users—you’ll need the new app (v4) to continue. Two exceptions apply: RDP users whose provider hasn’t deployed v4 yet, and firms approved for a temporary extension on a case-by-case basis. Outside these exceptions, v3 will return a sign-in error.
2. How is the new Windows app different from the old one?
The new Windows app offers the following key improvements:
-
Unified integrated experience: TaxDome Drive and Printer are built directly into a single modern app with a refreshed interface designed for smoother document workflows.
-
Smart browser handoff: Advanced actions like requesting e-signatures, locking to invoices, or linking to jobs open in your web browser for the full experience where it works best.
-
Built for modern Windows devices: Works natively on Microsoft Surface, Copilot+ PCs, and Mac via Parallels—no compatibility workarounds needed. Faster sync, cleaner architecture, and ready for future workflow enhancements.
-
Improved upload and sync handling: Drive reliability fixes—common issues like Excel/PDF freezing during edits, file corruption on save, and unexpected disconnects are addressed in v4 with a new sync engine. Better tracking of failed uploads with clear error visibility, plus more predictable folder moves, renames, and file replacements that reduce sync conflicts.
3. How do I switch to the new app?
Switching takes about 5 minutes:
-
Download and install the new Windows app . You can run it alongside v3 during the transition.
-
Sign in with your TaxDome credentials.
Your files are already on the server—there’s nothing to migrate.
4. Will my files be affected?
No. Your files are stored on TaxDome servers, not in the desktop app. The app is a window to your data. Switching apps does not move or delete anything.
5. Can I run both apps at the same time?
Yes, during the transition period. Both apps can be installed and used until August 20. After that date, v3 will no longer accept sign-ins, but it will not break v4.
Note that running both apps on the same computer counts as two active sessions . Signing in on a third device will pause one of them.
6. What if I’m not ready by August 20?
Contact us. We have solutions for specific situations:
- RDP users whose provider hasn’t deployed v4 yet—you won’t be cut off
- Firms with specific blockers (Drake/UltraTax integrations, custom workflows, validated RDP not ready)—contact support to discuss a temporary extension
- Technical issues—our team can help troubleshoot
7. What features are not in v4 yet?
See the public roadmap for current status on planned features.
8. When will bulk upload be available in v4?
A web-based migration tool is in development and expected before August 2026. In the meantime, upload folder-by-folder via TaxDome Drive, or use the web app .
9. How do I scan documents now?
The workflow has changed in v4:
-
Scan documents to a local folder on your computer.
-
Drag that folder into TaxDome Drive .
-
Files sync automatically to the correct client folder.
For high-volume scanning: scan and organize files locally by client, then drag each client’s folder into Drive.
10. When will native scanner support return?
Scan to Drive is on the 2027 roadmap. No specific quarter is confirmed yet. We’ll communicate the timeline once it is.
11. Will the TaxDome Printer disappear?
No. The TaxDome Printer is in v4 and will continue to be supported. See Print, save, and send docs from any application to TaxDome for how to use it.
12. I’m having issues with the new app
Check our troubleshooting guide for common issues including Drive not appearing, sync problems, and printer issues. If you don’t find a solution there, contact us and use the Feedback button in the app to send logs directly to our support team—we’ll be happy to help.
13. Why is the Windows app (v3) being retired?
Maintaining two apps doubles engineering cost and slows down improvements. v4 has a modern architecture that supports ARM devices, delivers better sync, and is the foundation for everything being built next—including a native macOS app. v3 maintenance is holding back v4 progress.
14. I use a hosted or RDP environment—what should I do?
Your RDP provider (RightWorks, Verito, Ace Cloud, or others) controls which app version is deployed. You cannot install v4 yourself—your provider needs to validate and deploy it.
Current status: major providers are validating v4. Once your provider is ready, they will deploy it with no action needed from you.
RDP users whose provider has not deployed v4 by August 20 will not be cut off. v3 sign-in will remain available for RDP users in that situation until their provider deploys v4.
15. Is v4 an automatic update of v3?
No. v4 is a separate app you install alongside v3. They run independently. v3 will not auto-update to v4—you need to download v4 yourself .
