Recommended notification settings for your firm
Table of contents
TaxDome’s notifications are controlled by three separate settings—account following, notification preferences, and reminders—each affecting a different audience. This article explains how they fit together and suggests a starting configuration for firms whose team members feel over-notified or whose clients report repeated nudges.
How the three settings fit together
- Account following decides which client accounts you get notified about at all.
- Notification preferences decide which event types you get notified about, across every account you follow, and whether each goes to your email, Inbox+ , or both.
- Reminders are separate from the two settings above—they’re follow-up emails TaxDome sends to clients , not your team, for a pending invoice, proposal, or organizer.
Team members feeling over-notified is usually a following or preferences issue; clients feeling nagged is usually a reminders issue.
A suggested starting configuration
-
Unfollow accounts you don’t actively work on. Following only affects notifications for the accounts you keep following—unfollowing the rest cuts volume without touching anyone else’s settings. Bulk-unfollow from Clients > Accounts; see changing account following settings .
-
Turn off notification types your role doesn’t need, in your profile’s Account settings > Notification preferences. For example, clear the invoice and payment rows if you don’t handle billing, or leave only the rows for events you actually need to act on.
-
Pick one primary channel per notification type instead of leaving both the Email and Inbox+ columns checked for everything—this avoids seeing the same event twice in two places.
-
Leave reminders at TaxDome’s default—one reminder, three days after sending—unless a specific object needs a different cadence. Raising the reminder count for an object means clients get nudged about that same item more than once.
-
Automate reminders through the pipeline that sends the invoice, proposal, or organizer, rather than configuring them on every individual item—every object sent through that automation then inherits the same schedule.
Note
If a client account has more than one contact with the Notify option turned on, each of them receives their own copy of every reminder—this is expected behavior, not a duplicate send. Adjust who’s notified per contact in multiple logins & profile access .Was this article helpful?
