Custom website (Basic): Set up a custom website URL

TaxDome allows you to fully white-label your website address: use your domain (e.g., yourtaxfirm.com) or subdomain (e.g., portal.yourtaxfirm.com) instead of ours (e.g., yourtaxfirm.taxdome.com). Using your domain also enables additional security for your workspace.

Covered here:

Step 1. Set up your domain at a domain name registrar

You must have a domain purchased from a domain registrar to use it with TaxDome. There are two possible options to choose from:

  • Use the main domain name for TaxDome (e.g., yourtaxfirm.com): This option is suitable if you don't have a separate website and want to use the TaxDome portal as your main source of client interaction
  • Use the subdomain for TaxDome (e.g., portal.yourtaxfirm.com): This option is suitable if you keep your website separate from your TaxDome portal and want to add a link to the TaxDome portal to it

Select one of the two options and follow the appropriate instructions. Note you can't use both the main domain and the subdomain because DNS records for configuration will conflict with each other and there will be an error when trying to open the website.

Set up the main domain (e.g., yourtaxfirm.com)

To set your main domain for TaxDome, add several DNS records on your domain name registration’s DNS management page.

Domain name registrars have different interfaces for setting this up. Below, we show you how to add DNS records for some frequently used registrars such as GoDaddy, Wix, Cloudflare, and so on

If you are familiar with domain settings or if you have a different domain registrar, please use these short instructions:

1. Create three A records for the entire domain (specify @):

  • 34.198.164.57
  • 3.218.123.74
  • 18.215.202.77

2. Create a CNAME record for www and point it to your TaxDome subdomain in the following format: yourtaxfirm.cd.taxdome.com.

An example of adding a CNAME record in the Domain.com interface

3. Save changes.

4. Go to the step 2 on adding your domain/subdomain to your TaxDome account.

Set up the subdomain (e.g., portal.yourtaxfirm.com)

To set your subdomain for TaxDome, add a DNS record on your domain name registration’s DNS management page.

Domain name registrars have different interfaces for setting this up. Below, we show you how to add DNS records for some frequently used registrars such as GoDaddy, Wix, Cloudflare, and so on

If you are familiar with domain settings or if you have a different domain registrar, please use these short instructions:

1. Create a CNAME record for your subdomain (e.g., portal) and point it to your TaxDome subdomain in the following format: yourtaxfirm.cd.taxdome.com.

An example of adding a CNAME record in the Domain.com interface

2. Save changes.

3. Go to the step 2

attention

Attention! It can take up to 48 hours for a CNAME record to get updated, but it’s usually about an hour.

Using website hosting feature in TaxDome

If you plan to use the website hosting feature in TaxDome, please reconfigure your DNS settings to support both the domain and the website.

1. Delete the CNAME record for your subdomain (e.g.,  portal.yourtaxfirm.com).

2. Set up a main domain using the instructions specific to your domain registrar.

3. Link the new domain.

When the domain is live, the website hosted in TaxDome will be accessible through your custom domain yourtaxfirm.com and the TaxDome portal login page will have the link yourtaxfirm.com/login.
