Migrate CRM data to TaxDome in 3 steps
Moving your client data to TaxDome can be simple and stress-free. TaxDome’s import tool lets you transfer your entire client database in bulk rather than creating each account manually. Whether you’re coming from Drake, Lacerte, or QuickBooks, this guide will help you transfer your client accounts and contacts effortlessly.
Step 1. Export your client list from your current software
The first step is to export your client data from your current platform. Most accounting software allows you to export client information to a CSV file, which can then be imported directly into TaxDome.
What you’ll need to export:
- Client names
- Contact information (emails, phone numbers, addresses)
- Account types (Individual, Company, etc.)
- Any custom fields or tags you want to preserve ( learn how you can use them in TaxDome)
Most export processes follow a similar pattern: locate the export function in your software, select which fields to export, choose CSV as your format, and save the file to your computer.
For detailed, step-by-step instructions specific to your current software, see our guide on how to export your client list .
Step 2. Prepare your CSV file for import
Once you’ve exported your data, you’ll need to format it properly for TaxDome. A CSV (Comma-Separated Values) file is a simple format for storing data in a table, where each row represents a client record and each column contains specific details like name, email, or phone number.
Key things to remember:
- The file should be UTF-8 encoded and not exceed 300 kB
- Each row must include only one contact
- Accounts and contacts should be clearly distinguished
- Column headers should be properly labeled for easy mapping
For complete instructions on structuring your CSV file, including column requirements and common import scenarios, see our guide on how to prepare your CSV file for import .
Step 3. Import your client data to TaxDome
With your CSV file prepared, you’re ready to import your clients into TaxDome. The import tool lets you transfer client records in bulk, eliminating the need for manual creation.
The import process includes:
-
Uploading your CSV file
-
Mapping account fields from your CSV to TaxDome properties
-
Configuring settings for client portal access and notifications
-
Mapping contact fields
-
Reviewing and completing the import
