Jobs (Advanced): Create & edit custom job statuses
Custom job statuses enhance workflow transparency and help address any blockers efficiently. They can be set up for each pipeline individually, either in advance from the pipeline editing page or directly from a job card as needed. In this article, we'll tell you how to create, edit and delete custom job statuses.
Create custom statuses
Custom statuses are created for each pipeline. However, when you already have some custom statuses created for one pipeline, it is very easy to transfer them to the other ones because the status names will be pre-filled.
1. You can create custom statuses from the pipeline editing page or from any job card in a pipeline:
- From pipeline editing page: Go to the Job statuses tab and click + Add status to the right of the Custom job statuses section.
- From job card: In the Job Info section, click on the status dropdown and select + New status.
2. Fill out custom status details and click Add:
a. Name: The name displayed as the custom status on the job card and in the pipeline. When you type a name, look at the suggested names taken from the existing statuses in other pipelines. If the status names in different pipelines match, you can filter jobs with the same status name across different pipelines. For that, titles must be 100% matching – capitalization matters.
b. Description: Details to explain the meaning of the status (optional).
c. Add automations: Configure automations to trigger when the status is applied to a job. We recommend to add as many automations as you might need. Then, when moving a job to this status, you can select only those you need in this particular case. And you will be able to manually link automations to the custom status once it is selected. For details on status automations, go to the detailed article.
Edit custom statuses
To make changes to an existing custom status, follow these steps:
1. Go to the Job statuses tab of the pipeline editing page.
2. Click the pencil icon to the right of the custom status in the Custom job statuses section.
3. Make your changes and click Save.
As custom statuses are specific to each pipeline, editing them in bulk is not possible.
Delete custom statuses
To permanently remove custom statuses, follow these steps:
1. Go to the Job statuses tab of the pipeline editing page.
2. Click the trash icon to the right of the custom status in the Custom job statuses section.
3. Confirm deleting.
Note! Once you delete a custom status, jobs assigned this status will become active.
Who can do this?
