CRM (Basic): Update account info in bulk via import
TaxDome import tool could be used not only when you are migrating your CRM data for the first time and creating accounts and linked contacts. It could also be useful if you need to update any CRM data in bulk for the accounts and contacts you already have in the system. Here, we explain the main use cases of why it might be helpful.
Before you start
When using our import tool for updating client info in bulk it's important to remember that if an account with the same name already exists in TaxDome, it will not be changed and all of its data will remain the same. This way, you can safely add any data you might need.
Like for the general import, you need to have your CSV file prepared. However, when you are going to update some data for your existing accounts, the best way to prepare it is the following:
1. First, export all your accounts. To do this, go to Clients > Accounts from the sidebar menu, then click the export icon. You will receive an email with the download link.
2. Open the exported CSV file and delete all columns from the spreadsheet except for the Account name column.

Note! Ensure you don’t have any columns related to contacts. This way, bulk import steps won’t modify contact toggles or other contact-related settings
3. Now, add the columns for the data you want to add. See the examples below for detailed instructions.
Bulk import CRM fields for accounts
If you want to add any additional CRM data to your existing accounts, make sure you have a spreadsheet with exported accounts which contain only Account name column. Then do the following:
1. Add columns for each CRM field you want to add, fill in the data and then save the file.
2. Upload the spreadsheet to TaxDome by clicking the Import button on the Clients > Accounts page.
3. For the Account type, select Ignore, so that this field is not updated.
4. On the Map Accounts stage of your import, in the Action column, select Sync field. Create a new custom field by selecting New field from the dropdown menu.
5. Under Field name, enter what you would like to call it, for example, Tax return.
6. Select the field type and click Save.
7. Skip the other steps of the import. Make sure to select Ignore for all contact fields.
8. Click Start Import on the last step. No new accounts or contacts will be created. Instead, new custom fields will be created in your existing client accounts and the data will be added to them.
Once the import has been completed, you can check client profile for new data.
