Client request field reference

This article describes the fields available when creating or editing a client request.

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| a. Account | Account(s) the request is sent to. |
| b. Template (optional) | Previously created template to apply, or option to start a new template. |
| c. Message for client | Explanation of the task shown in the email body when the client is notified. Supports formatting, emojis, links, and account/date shortcodes . |
| d. Request name | Name displayed in the client portal and in the email. |
| e. Add question | Adds a question to the request. See Question types for available types. Click the gear icon to mark a question optional or add a hint. |
| f. Text block | Block of static text. Supports links, embedded videos, and emojis. |
| g. Reminders | Sends automatic reminders to the client about a pending request. |
| h. Require sign-in | Whether the client must log in to respond. When disabled, the client can access only this specific request—no other portal data is visible. |
| i. Save as a template | Saves the request as a template for future reuse after sending. |
| j. Link to job | Links the request’s results (documents and responses) to a specific job or task. |
| k. Send | Sends the request to the selected client(s). |
Question types
Nine question types are available to add to your client request:

|---|---|
Text entry | For text, such as a name, address, or company. |
Email | For email addresses. |
Number | For numerals, such as number of children or an SSN. |
Date | For a day, month, and year, such as a DOB. The date must match one of these formats: MMM-DD-YYYY (e.g., Jan-01-2024) or MM/DD/YYYY (e.g., 12/24/2024) for US firms; DD/MM/YYYY (e.g., 24/12/2024) for non-US firms. |
Radio buttons | List of at least two options, such as a company type (e.g., nonprofit or LLC). |
Checkboxes | Small boxes (at least one) that can be checked off, allowing single or multiple answers. |
Dropdown | Expands a menu to select one or more pre-defined options. To allow more than one selection, toggle on Allow multiselect when creating the question. |
Yes/No | For yes/no answers (e.g., “Are you married?”). |
File upload | Provides a place to upload a document with a specified name. Files uploaded to requests are saved to the client account; the client can select a folder when uploading. With TaxDome AI enabled, documents uploaded by clients via the portal or mobile app are automatically renamed and tagged. |
