Services (Basic): Add to proposals

With the Services feature, you can create itemized proposals and engagement letters that clearly outline what your clients will be charged for. Services in proposals could be used either as a price list or as a part of invoicing.

Covered here:

Adding itemized services without creating invoices

You can add a price list of services to your proposal. An invoice can be created based on the list of services at a later point. To do so:

1. Click  New at the top left, then select Proposal. Or, go to Templates > Firm templates from the left menu bar, select the Proposals & ELs tab, and click Create template or open a previously created one.

2. Go to the  Services & invoices step of the proposal and select the Add itemized services without creating invoices option.

3. Add services in the  Line items section: click the + Line item, then either select a service or create a new one. Fill in the Rate field, set the quantity for the service (QTY), and decide whether each line item is taxable.

Here are more details on line items fields:

  • Discount: to add a line item, click the Discount button, then fill in the Rate field. The amount will be subtracted from the total.
  • AmountRate times QTY.
  • Tax: automatically adds the tax to the invoice created with this proposal. Once the sales tax is added, you’ll see it reflected in the total (learn more on tax rates in invoices).

4. Once the proposal is signed, you can create and send an invoice with the services you listed.

Go to Billing > Proposals & ELs from the left menu bar and click the Create invoice link in the Invoicing column of a necessary proposal. Or, click the three dots to the right and select Create invoice.

tip

Note: You can’t add services to proposal line items if that proposal has already been signed by clients.

Adding services along with invoices

To send proposals containing services along with invoices, follow these steps:

1. Click  New at the top left, then select Proposal. Or, go to Templates > Firm templates from the left menu bar, select the Proposals & ELs tab and click Create template or open a previously created one.

2. Go to the  Services & invoices step of the proposal and select the Add invoice or ask for deposit option.

3. Add services as invoice line items in the Line items section. To find more, go to the detailed instructions above.

4. Once the proposal is signed, an invoice will be automatically issued containing all services as line items.

Where can I find services linked to my prior contracts?

Before rolling out Proposals & ELs, TaxDome offered you Contracts with functionality on linking services. All your previously created contracts are converted into proposals and all linked services are in place. You can see them as line items in the Services & invoices proposal step.

  • If you created a contract previously and it was signed, both you and your client will see the linked services as line items.
  • If you created a contract previously and it's still pending, both you and your client will see the linked services as line items and you will be able to edit/remove/update them by editing a proposal.
